Jim
Lago is a native Texan who arrived in Corpus Christi in 1985. He's hosted top
rated morning shows, first in music with "Lago and the Morning Zoo" and then his
talk show "Lago in the Morning." His strong ties to the community, quick wit and
evident love of what he is doing have made him one of South Texas’ favorite
personalities.
Lago is conservative but independent and he's not shy about
taking on Republicans who pander and posture in order to keep from doing their
job. "Lago in the Morning" is more than politics; it's about interesting things
going on in town, things that touch your life, your kid’s lives and your bank
account. Lago refers to it as "a neighborhood meeting" where ideas are exchanged
among the people who actually do the work that run the economic engine of South
Texas.

Lago
left Corpus Christi in 1993 for a quick stint in Houston and Oklahoma, where he
was named “Personality of the Year”, by the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters
in 1995. He came back in 1996, or as he puts it, "as soon as I could". He's been
the Master of Ceremonies of some of South Texas’ most prestigious events
including seven years of hosting "Stars and Stripes" aboard the USS Lexington.
He was the presenter and Master of Ceremonies for former President George H. W.
Bush, Governor George W. Bush, Governor Rick Perry, the Navy Ball and Sailor of
the Year awards. He helped sell out and MC for Karen Hughes, Bill O'Reilly, Col.
Ollie North and Karl Rove at the Ortiz Center. Lago has proclaimed himself
“Corpus Christi Hooks’ Biggest Fan”. Since 2005 he has found
a second home in Section 117, Row 2, Seat 1 at Whataburger Field.
As his youngest daughter Jordan says, “If he has his way, he’ll be buried
in the outfield.”
Lago
is married to his Louisiana born and raised wife of 15 years, Pamela, a
former 6th grade teacher at Flour Bluff. "He's really an amazing guy. He's
turned our back yard into a tropical paradise…it's absolutely beautiful. He
paints, he sings, he plays several instruments by ear and he encouraged and
supported me to finish my college education. He's just one of the most
interesting and generous people I've ever known."
Lago has three
daughters. Two from a previous marriage, Christy and Jayme, live in Houston and
have blessed him with five grandchildren: Corey, Brett, Zoey, Aubry and Lago.
"Actually his name is Isaac,” says Lago, “but they did hang Lago on him as a
middle name and I was really, really appreciative of that.” His youngest
daughter, Jordan, is a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M University – College
Station and recently moved back to Corpus Christi. She
is, by far, his favorite. (The last sentence was written by
